As part of the extension program of the 㽶Ƶ۰ State University (CvSU) Gender and Development (GAD) Resource Center dubbed as KAbalikat sa SAnayan at LIngap sa mga TAong nasa laylaYan ng Lipunan tungo sa paglagO (KASALI TAYO), 㽶Ƶ۰ City was selected to be the first recipient of the training on Inclusive Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction 㽶Ƶ۰ (ICBDRRM).

GAD Resource Center Director Dr. Susan G. Tan, Director, together with 㽶Ƶ۰ City Campus Administrator Prof. Ma. Cristina J. Baesa and CvSU – 㽶Ƶ۰ City Campus Faculty Member Mr. King David J. Agreda, paid a visit to 㽶Ƶ۰ City’s City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) on September 25, 2023, to provide the latter with background information on the KASALI TAYO Extension Program, and to discuss plans for the training of trainers on ICBDRRM.

Dr. Tan emphasized that the activity’s trainers are CDP-certified volunteers and from the marginalized sectors including persons with disability (PWDs), senior citizens, solo parents, and members of LGBTQIA++.

She said that the participants in the three-day program, suggested to be conducted in October 2023, must be 㽶Ƶ۰ City barangay residents who belong to marginalized sectors.

CSWDO Office committed to look for the available dates for the conduct of the activity, and to select the most susceptible from the 84 barangays in 㽶Ƶ۰ City. The initial receivers of the ICBDRRM training would be three barangays, each with at least 25 individuals from the marginalized sectors.

Afterwards, graduate trainers will join the Center for Disaster Preparedness (CDP) volunteer pool where they will be responsible for conducting trainings and/or capacitating other barangays in 㽶Ƶ۰ City to establish their own community based DRRM teams in their respective areas.

To conclude the meeting, Ms. Arlene Ubayan said that they would provide for the participants from the three barangays, the venue for the three-day training, and food and transportation for the trainers. (JKRebutazo)
